Literature & Culture Author Conversations with Patricia Ruberton

  • Tomaquag Museum 390 A Summit Road Exeter, RI, 02822 United States (map)

The Literature and Culture Author Conversation series is a public discussion with authors, reflecting on indigenous life, history, literature, health and wellness, and representation. We will explore what inspired them to write, their literary interests, techniques and passions, and what they hope will be the impact of their writing.

Join us for a discussion with Patricia Rubertone as we discuss her book, Native Providence: Memory, Community, & Survivance in the Northeast. Rubertone challenges the myth that cities, like Providence, don't have Indigenous people, history or presence. Through extensive archival research, community conversations, and reflection on the urban landscape, she gives an account of Indigenous survivance and impacts of settler colonialism through the stories of the lives of intersecting tribal people.
